New Year: Time to resolve the irresolvable
Seasons come and go, constantly been recycled before us. Births and deaths are daily phenomenon all around us. Each day and month finds us meticulously attending to our businesses from which we sometimes emerge winners and other times losers. As humans, many of us have figured out that consistent careful planning, hard work and dedication adds up, eventually leading us to the whatever future we are hoping for, although we don’t always get what we think we deserve. For the undecided, those who are not sure what they want in life, the story is a little different. Life is more or less a gamble of “Whatever comes or happens.” For such people, there is not much to expect because somehow, somewhere, they have lost the passion and drive that makes life a bitter sweet experience.
It’s a New Year again, and another time when many people are making changes. For once, let us think about the things that we often don’t want to think about. Let us ask ourselves, what if this year is going to be our last? And trust me; there is no way of knowing that it wouldn’t. So if we are just to pretend that it is this case, how will that affect how we think or act? What things would matter the most? What are the most important decisions we should be making this New Year? If you ask me, I will answer that that I will live each day like it is indeed my last.
To live each day like the last may make us grateful for the here and now. It may help us not just to notice, but to truly appreciate those around me; affirming, encouraging and complimenting them. We may not have time to be mean, dishonest, nor are we interested in hurting anybody. We want to make peace with everyone because we want to be remembered with love after we are gone. We have only one wish; to do as much good as possible. We also think about what lies beyond, how to face God.
I just want to wish all my friends and all people of good will a very happy and reflective New Year Celebration. Remember to plan for what you think you know or desire. However, also remember to plan for the unknown – I think it is a fair balance.
God bless you!
